We really like this mix, which has a lot of what we call "happy" tribal energy, meaning it isn't as dark as many tribal mixes and doesn't have the repetitive "pots and pans" sound that many find abrasive about tribal tracks.
DJ Joe Gathreaux chooses some excellent tracks here, even if they are not all going to be familiar immediately. Several tracks in particular (the Gordon Edge, Loleatta Holloway, and Soul Theory tracks) stand out with a hot blend of saxophones, pianos, and diva vocals that lighten the mood while sounding perfectly natural within the tribal rhythms of the mix. Also notable is the unique third-world sounding, African-influenced elements used in the Anthony Class track "Emperor". Overall, an excellent mix that is equally great for listening to in the car as on the dancefloor.
This CD commemorates the 2005 Cherry dance benefit, held yearly in Washington, DC as a fundraiser for The Cherry Fund, serving the gay and lesbian community.
